This auction is for one 1981 Gibson ES 175 D Vintage Guitar from the personal collection of internationally known guitarst Michael Lewis with the original custom hard shell case included. Guitar and case are both made in the USA. This guitar was purchased new by Michael Lewis at Guitar Showcase in San Jose, California the day it arrived in 1984. This guitar has a faint "sec" imbedded in the back of the headstock, indicating it was a factory second. We believe this is due to a tiny flaw on the headstock (see pic) that was there since the day it was purchased. We are guessing, since the guitar was made in 1981 and purchased in 1984, we wonder if it had been shipped to a store, found to have damage and was shipped back, stamped with the "sec" and resold to Guitar Showcase where Michael purchased it? We may never know what happened to it during that part of it’s history?
We do know that after Michael purchased it, he used it on my album projects and commercials in studios in Oregon, Nashville and Spokane, inluding a commercial that featured Americal Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle (before she was on the show – click to listen) and some recordings for Jon Anderson of the legendary group Yes that have not been released yet. This was Michael’s primary guitar when he was the guitarist for the Radio Daze Big Band in Nashville, TN and he was seen around Nashville doing various jazz gigs with this guitar as well. Michael never took this guitar out on tour, it was only used for local gigs and studio sessions.
This is your chance to own a great guitar in excellent condition, owned and played by a reputable player. Below is a photo of Michael rehearsing with Radio Daze in 2004 with this ES 175. Note the Fuchs ODS 100 in the background and the Fuchs shirt Michael is wearing. This picture was taken shortly after Michael had received an endorsement with Fuchs.
