Info: This is ES Artist simply plays and sounds as fantastic as it looks. For those not familiar, the Gibson Artist Series was produced from the late 70′s to the early 80′s. The key unique attribute of these instruments is the series of toggle switches that were manufactured by Moog for Gibson. They control: pre-amp boost, out of phase simulator and a treble boost. The pickups are active and powered by battery. Also, the bass and treble knobs boost and cut their respective frequencies. This combination of controls make this one of the most versatile sounding tone machines ever produced in my opinion. I always find new sounds between fiddling with the controls and my amp settings. The ES model does not have the F-holes, which makes it extra resistant to feedback. The body and three-piece neck are made from beautifully figured maple. The fretboard is ebony. The headstock has very detailed inlay work. Other unique features include the built in winders on the tuners, a brass nut and truss rod cover.
Overall, she’s in very good shape, however, there are two three issues: the pickguard, made of genuine celluoid, has a crack and needs to be repaired. I photographed it with it attached on the guitar but play the guitar with it removed. It looks good that way and I haven’t bothered to try repairing it. There are also some hairline cracks in the body where they pickguard is supposed to be positioned. They are under the finish. I aquired the guitar this way and they haven’t expanded at all. The last one is Gibson’s notoriously thin gold plating was worn completely off on the humbucker covers by the previous owner. Some of the gold finish remains on the humbucker screws.
Original Gibson case is also included. I’ve loved having this guitar but now it’s time to let someone else enjoy what she has to offer. Before selling, I gave here a set-up, fresh strings and had the frets filed and polished. I’ve sold and shipped many guitars on eBay before, so bid with confidence.
