GIBSON KIDS ROCK, a featured element of the Program, was created by Nefertiti Jones and Jimi K Bones, with the help of Gibson Guitars, to bring music into the lives of children in New York Cityâ??s child welfare system.
What is Gibson Kids Rock?
Gibson Kids Rock is part of the Arts and Music Program at Mott Haven Academy Charter School, a new public school in the South Bronx. The school is uniquely designed to MEET THE NEEDS OF AT-RISK STUDENTS in the child welfare system. Haven Academy is dedicated to the belief that all students, regardless of economic status or family structure, are entitled to learn in a system that gives them the best possible chance for success. Introducing music to these students expands their horizons, nurtures their talents and helps them build self-confidence, which will benefit them in their academic endeavors.
Who Benefits?
This guitar is part of a benefit effort sponsored by Gibson Guitars and The New York Foundling to help raise money for the Arts and Music program at Haven Academy. The proceeds will help provide the program with musical instruments, instruction, music books and private lessons, and sow the seeds to develop a more comprehensive music program, complete with a specialized music room and recording capabilities.
