1950′s early 1960 Gibson Les Paul Custom with original 1950′s 4 latch Lifton case
The guitar is a late 1950′s, early 1960 Gibson Les Paul Custom that was refinished a long time ago. The refin I believe was done by Gibson and a stamped serial number was installed. The guitar has an all mahogany body (see screw holes in pickup route photo) all mahogany only on 50′s), long half moon tenon, 17 degree headstock angle with holly veneer face, ebony fretboard with the last three inlays being the same size (only 50′s and early 1960 had these), tailpiece alignment splits volume knobs (only on 50′s stoptail LP’s), 50′s routes and tooling marks, original pickguard, threeway switch and wiring, M69 pickup rings, and original 1950′s 4 latch lifton case. 1960′s patent # sticker pickups (middle pickup not hooked up), Gibson lightweight tailpiece, patent number ABR 1 bridge, non original pots from 1968. The white plastic control cavity cover is rolled plastic from the 50′s and I also have the white 3 way switch back plate also which is rolled plastic as well. Not sure why they put white plastic on it. There is a faint line on one side of the control cavity on the back of the guitar that it looks like might have been cut out and put back in before the refinish. The guitar possibly may have had a varitone on it originally. The guitar has the classic tone that only these guitars can have. Even though they try to replicate these guitars, there is nothing that comes close to sound of old wood. The guitar is a players. Stamped serial number 400540. Neck is straight with no cracks and has a medium profile. Not real fat or slim, but just right. Frets are in good condition. We sanded a spot on the back of the headstock to see possibly if the original serial number was intact, it was not. Have photos of this prior to sanding if anyone would like a photo. If you would like any other photos we would be glad to send them.
