Up for auction is an absolutely KILLER 1961 100% ORIGINAL Gibson Les Paul/SG Junior, S/N 43947. This 5.6 pound (yeah this guitar weighs next to nothing!) guitar is a tone machine, and rings out loudly unplugged! The finish shows the expected lacquer checking and dings you would expect, but retains a strong vibrant cherry finish. Something reacted on the finish on the face of the headstock, which ate circles through the finish only. The laser straight neck is an absolute dream on this guitar with killer frets and a beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard both in excellent condition. the pickgurad has warped a bit and the one point on the treble cut is cracked of and the other point by the volume/tone controls is cracked but still holding. The all original electronics work perfectly and the original P-90 pickup is one of the best I have heard (probably in part to how resonant the guitar is acoustically). The nickle plated featherweight aluminum bridge is in excellent condition and its posts are straight and true with zero foward tilt. The original single line Kluson Deluxe tuners function perfectly and have always been on the guitar. There was a chip, little more than the thickness of the finish itself that happened a long time ago near the controls, it is only on the face of the guitar and does not even go to the side. Other than that this guitar is repair free. These were Gibson’s best engineered solidbody guitar of this era, as the 2 and 3 pickup versions all had wek neck joints. If you need pics of the bottom of the pickups, pickup cavity, control cavity, the guitar under a blacklight or anything else, please let me know. The guitar comes shipped in the later 60s era Gibson chip board case shown.
