Info: This auction is for a 1983 Gibson Pre Historic Les Paul ReIssue.
This guitar is in spectacular condition and 100% original. It shows only very minor play wear. No cracks, no scratches, no repairs, no refinishing. This guitar still looks new and has no tarnish or pitting on the nickel parts. Was a one owner, under the bed guitar that was never played out and spent most of the time in its case. It has an unusual amber top finish and a highly figured 3D book matched flame maple top. All solder joints are original and unmolested. This guitar has original Tim Shaw pick ups. The bridge pick up has the ink stamp number 13868 indicating a June production date. It has double white coils and measures 7.31K. The neck pick up also bears a faded illegible ink stamp number. It’s double black and measures 7.39K. The covers on both pick ups have never been removed. Both pick ups have a stamped patent number of 2737842.
Inside the neck pick up cavity inked under the finish are the letters HDSB and stamped Made In USA.
According to the Vintage Guitar Magazine article in 2004 by Mike Slubowski, Gibson finally released a Les Paul ReIssue model. For whatever reason, they were careful not to call it a ’59 reissue. The ReIssue was an immediate hit with LP lovers, since it had features that were closer to the ’59 such as thin binding on the cutaway, nickel hardware, ABR-1 bridge, vintage style knobs, and highly figured tops. None of the reissues had a long neck tenon. The serial number configuration is Y XXXX with the first number representing the year it was manufactured. These guitars vary in weight with the lightest at 8 lbs. 9 oz. and the heaviest at 10 lbs. 8oz.
This guitar is light weight, weighing about 9 lbs. on my bathroom scale. The pot codes show as 1378313 on two and 137830X on the other two (the last number is covered by solder). The serial number is 3 01XX which is inked on the back of the headstock under the finish. The last two numbers have been obscured in the photos for security purposes. A new hardshell case is included.
Shipping is $45 to the CONTINENTAL USA only. I will not accept offers from anywhere outside of the CONTINENTAL USA. Item will be professionally packed very well. I accept Paypal.
