1965 Gibson EB 3 EB3 SG vintage bass guitar Jack Bruce

1965 Gibson EB 3 EB3 SG vintage bass guitar Jack Bruce

Info:
Up for auction is a VERY RARE original 1965 Gibson EB-3 bass, s/n 333304. This quite rare bass has ALL of the correct specs of Jack Bruce’s EB-3. Wide spaced control layout and all nickel hardware. The bass is in pretty darn nice shape for a 65, with the original finish a very UNfaded deep cherry red, some extremely light checking and some minor wear to be expected of a bass this age. The finish is really in better shape than most EB 0 or 3s from this era and still has a nice deep shine, with no major nicks, and the worst of it some finish wear right above the top front edge of the control cavity. The finish on the back of the neck and headstock and the front of the headstock is in excellent condition though there is a mark on the back of the neck where it rests on the support in the case, a normal thing for an old instrument that has been stored away, for a long long time (probably why there is no fading of the finish!). The neck is straight and the original frets and rosewood fingerboard really show no real playwear. All of the electronics, pickups, solder joints, and wiring are 100% original with one of the visable pot codes dated the 26th week of 65. The bass has 2 issues. First is that the neck is slightly pulling at the neck joint (see pics) resulting in the finish chipping there and a slight gap at the base of the neck and body joint. The bass is actually still playable though with a medium action, but it can not go any lower due to the lessend neck angle. A reset would be in order and really should be performed on this rare bird (about 3-400.00 for a total pro job that would make this bass absolutely increadible), and a competent repair person would be able to make any chipped finish in that area also dissappear with ease. The other is a little piece of wood was chipped by the bridge stud and reglued back (see pics). There are no structural cracks anywhere including the nice chunky neck and no real other issues other than what was mentioned. The string cover is missing, and the mute (I think that is from 66 or so as it is chrome) is missing the mute bar. All other components are 100% original to this bass, including the tuners, wide bevel truss rod cover, pickguard, bridge, bridge studs, knobs, pickups & covers & surrounds, back plate pots, wiring, and all of the associated hardware.  The bass comes shipped in the original fair condition Gibson chip board case pictured. My reserve is well over 1000.00 LESS than the last 65 EB-3 that sold recently on eBay and that one had the later narrow spaced knobs, and the tuners were changed and then changed back! This is a way more valuable … Click For More Info
