Up for auction is a full original set of pickups from a 1964 ES-335. These are the patent number pickups used in the early stop tail model ES-335s, which are basically the same thing as the PAFs except for the stickers. Both pickups came from the same guitar and bear the same "patent number" decal unlike mix and match pairs of PAFs and PAT number pickups happened in 1962 and 1963 ES-335s. These two would be pre T-Top humbuckers as they are more commonly known.

This set was removed from my old 1964 ES-335. The guitar was stripped, refinished and pickups replaced with hotter Dimarzios. The pickups were stashed away until today. The nickel covers have never been removed, and both sets have matching patina/ oxidation on the covers. They were only removed from the guitar in the mid 90s, hence they were exposed to palm sweat and moisture in the air. There was significant crud from the bottom plate which were wiped off as it gathered dust in a drawer over the years as well as picking up the dust from sitting inside a dusty guitar case when it was installed. Both sets also have the original phillips screws on the baseplate.

The output of each are 7.36K ohms in the bridge and 7.71K ohms at the neck. The differences between the two are NOT significant enough to say that the neck is hotter than the bridge. The "hotness" or difference in tone will be heard based on the pickup distance along the strings once installed in the guitar, giving the neck pickup a slightly twangier or brighter bite on the tone. The leads on both pickups are pretty long. The neck pickup measures a tad over 10 inches and the bridge pickup measures 6 inches, which is just enough to reach the volume pot in the harness.

Finding a matching set is real hard to come by especially, a set removed from the same guitar with their original covers still attached. These would be perfect for the restoration of a semi hollow Gibson from that era.
